Chess in the Hive:
Building Minds,One Move at a Time
At PS 224, we’re proud to partner with Chess in the Schools to bring the timeless game of strategy and focus right into our Hive! Through weekly instruction and practice, students learn how to think critically, plan ahead, and make thoughtful decisions skills that extend far beyond the board.
Whether they’re beginners or budding champions, our students gain confidence, patience, and sportsmanship as they engage in friendly competition and sharpen their minds.

Making Waves in the Hive:
2nd Grade Swim Program
At PS 224, we believe every child should feel confident in and around water. That’s why our 2nd graders participate in a fun and foundational Swim Program designed to build water safety skills, swimming techniques, and self-assurance.

Through professional instruction, structured lessons, and encouragement from staff and peers, our students learn the basics of floating, breathing, and swimming—all while having a splash!
Creative Empowerment with 2 Gifted Academy:
Discovering Gifts Through Song
At PS 224, we are thrilled to partner with 2 Gifted Academy, a self‑empowerment program that helps students tap into their natural gifts through songwriting and creative expression. Aligned with New York’s social‑emotional learning goals, 2 Gifted Academy guides students to discover, develop, and uncover their unique talents, then bring them into everyday school life—whether they’re composing lyrics, exploring rhythm, or voicing their ideas.

Led by founder Iquell Reina, a passionate author, artist, and youth‑development advocate, the program inspires our students to express themselves boldly and authentically while building confidence and connection. Together, we're creating a Hive where creativity, purpose, and empowerment buzz together in harmony
